Background
About Sabrina Gallant
As someone who has a diverse set of interests, my education and experience reflects the wide range of fields that I have worked in. During my BSc (Life Sciences), I worked in a psychology lab diagnosing psychopathy using the PCL-R. During my MSc (Health Sciences) at YorkU, I primarily worked as a clinical trial coordinator at Toronto Rehab (UHN) on RCTs at all stages; my thesis, in conjunction with the Mayo Clinic, tracked the risk of cardiac events with antidepressant use in cardiac rehab patients. Since then, I've worked in the Faculty of Science at Ontario Tech University; my current role is as a Winter 2023 sessional instructor for two courses: Advanced Topics in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology and Microbiology for Health Sciences. I am a strong believer in implementing teaching pedagogy that allows the student to really connect with the material, and that guides my teaching philosophy. Previous work includes acting as a sessional lab coordinator for Fundamentals of Neuroscience at Ontario Tech, along with acting as a TA for many biology courses. The TA contracts allowed me to expand my experience in lab procedures- chromatography, spectroscopy, PCR, blotting techniques, gel electrophoresis- and indulge my love of wet lab bench work! Previously, I’ve had ongoing EEG work with Neuro-Tech, a US startup, advising on EEG for BCI (brain computer interface) applications. I also briefly worked as a statistical analyst for Amaris, using R/SAS to generate IPD analyses and network meta-analyses (NMAs). I plan to continue my education by getting an MD or PhD, which will hopefully allow me more career independence. For now, I am open to work that relies on my varied experience but challenges me as well, at a workplace that values sensitivity and empathy in social interactions. On a personal note, I love music, especially opera and classical, and am an accomplished pianist as well as a bass player. I dabble a bit in photography, and love to read up on subjects like psychology and pharmacology in my leisure time. I am always up for a nuanced, interesting discussion with colleagues. In the future, I would appreciate a workplace that encourages that kind of openness and is respectful of an employee’s work-life balance; in return I offer dedication, openness to experience and a strong work ethic. Since I have worked in so many biology-related fields, I have a breadth of knowledge of most related disciplines, so I would be happy to take on a position that is both challenging and rewarding.
