About Sabrina Norris

When I was a kid, I wanted to be an astronaut. I also wanted to be an author, a marine biologist, a film director, a Disney princess, an astrophysicist, a photographer, and an animator, among other things. I had lots of big dreams about finding adventure and telling stories, and I didn't have too much of a preference on how I went about achieving that. Some things have changed with time—the marine biologist dream has faded, though I'd still take up an offer for a space flight—but those big dreams are still the same, and I've realized that what unites all of the jobs I've aspired for is the desire to communicate and connect with people. I wound up working in graphic design 6 years ago as a happy accident, after teaching myself website design and the Adobe suite for fun, and it’s given me some incredible opportunities to learn many different ways to communicate. My NASA internship is certainly a highlight—the fulfillment of a lifelong dream to work for the Administration, and also the first steps in discovering my desire to work in corporate communication at the intersection of science and public service. In my free time, I'm often working on all kinds of craft projects, a by-product of growing up in a house full of creativity. I've dabbled in painting and drawing, in scrapbooking, wood-working, jewelry-making, sewing, and just about anything else you can make with your hands, but spend most of my crafting time on working with vinyl and paper or textiles. I also love to travel and spend time outdoors—another lifelong hobby from a childhood of RV camping and weekend road-tripping. I’ve been to 31 states, I’ve made it to 25 of 63 US national parks (so far!), and 11 UNESCO sites internationally. My entire family is PADI certified, and I’ve been diving in some of the most iconic fresh water springs in Florida, the Georgia Aquarium (see cover photo for my shot with Tank the turtle!), and the Great Barrier Reef, which I visited with a study abroad program in 2019.
