About Saeed Tamaddon

Currently, I am employed as a researcher at Western Sydney University in the Infrastructure Faculty. In addition to my research responsibilities, I am actively involved in supervising the theses of three postgraduate civil engineering students at the university. My academic expertise lies in Structural Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering, in which I obtained a Ph.D. in 2020. My doctoral research, completed approximately four years ago, focused on developing innovative approaches to analyze and address the phenomenon of the pounding effect in curved R/C bridges subjected to near-field earthquakes. For a structural system, uncertainties may be involved in four stages of its life cycle: system design, manufacturing, in-service time, and aging. In the structural design stage, uncertainties may be introduced due to model errors and vague or incomplete knowledge about the system. As the structural system ages, the deterioration of material properties may become crucial to performance variability. These uncertainties will give rise to structural performance variations during its whole life cycle. The following sections form my intellectual and scientific motivation for employment in an academic/institute or company. I am confident that I can be a key element in your group, especially in the field of analyzing, designing, vulnerability, and resilience of structures/infrastructures and machine learning. My professional background encompasses roles at the university and a consulting engineers group. Since 2010, I have been working as a lecturer, teaching civil engineering courses for thirty terms. Furthermore, starting in 2020, I have taught numerous master's courses designed for students focusing on structural and earthquake engineering. I started my career in civil engineering contracting firms in 2004 and have been collaborating with an Consulting Engineers Group since 2009. Within the consulting engineers company, I have fulfilled diverse roles, including supervision group leader, structural designer and analyst for Structural/Infrastructure retrofitting projects, and project manager for a wide array of structures such as residential, commercial, and industrial buildings, water transmission pipelines, networks, sewer systems, and concrete water reservoirs.
