Background

About Sagar Rajan Lonkar

I am Sagar Lonkar, a creatively restless artist with over 14 years of experience in the animation field. I have freelanced and worked as a Character Technical Director on various international and domestic projects. My expertise lies in asset work, particularly in building, rigging, and simulating the internal anatomy of creatures, including tissues and skin. This detailed work drives the final deformation of the skin by defining animation controls and rigging puppets for use by the animation and other departments. A significant part of my role involves collaborating closely with other departments, especially Modelling, Animation, and Shots, as well as working as a Creature Cloth/Hair TDs to ensure the delivery of dynamic, realistic creatures. My responsibilities include maintaining the creature workflow by baking all the shots assigned to my shows and keeping them up to date with the latest motion published. Additionally, I use scripts or snippets to streamline the production workflow, which enhances my debugging skills—a crucial part of transitioning to a Technical Director role. Beyond my primary duties, I am committed to training and mentoring new members of the Creatures team, fostering the next generation of talent in the field. Liaising with other departments is vital, as I address requests and queries to ensure seamless communication and collaboration. This interaction ensures that the work produced is cohesive and meets the high standards expected in the industry. My experience and dedication make me a valuable asset to any project, as I continue to push the boundaries of animation and character technical direction.
