About Sage Simms

This spring I graduated from UC Santa Cruz with a BA in Fine & Studio Arts and a BA in Education, Democracy & Justice. I was a member of the UCSC cross country and track & field team all four years. I was appointed team captain by my teammates and coaches my senior year. Throughout my time at UCSC I volunteered at a couple elementary schools, interned at a children’s art studio and participated in UCSC Open Studios. Currently I am a server at Pizzeria Avanti and a substitute teacher at Santa Cruz City schools. Both of these jobs have allowed me to face and conquer new challenges and to think under pressure. Along with being a server at Pizzeria Avanti, I also hold the positions of hostess, busser, and I take phone calls. Because of the many roles I have at work I have learned how to multitask, great time management, and how to inform my fellow staff and customers of the overall ebb and flow of the restaurant, depending on its level of busyness.Additionally, my job as a substitute teacher has taught me how to manage large groups (from TK- high school), communicate effectively to my students and staff, perform well and think quickly under pressure and importantly I’ve learned how to be a friend and a help to students who need extra attention or someone to talk to. I have also been working diligently on a series of oil paintings, which I plan to display and sell within the next few months.
