About Saibal Roy
In 2020, Professor Roy received the 'Tom Brazil excellence in research award' for his contribution in the area of miniaturized, low-power, renewable energy harvesting and power conversion devices employing micro-nano-magnetics. In 2017, Prof. Roy was appointed as Research Professor at the School of Physics, National University of Ireland-University College Cork (UCC) and continued to remain as Senior Principal Scientist, Head of Micropower Devices & Nanomagnetics research in Tyndall National Institute. He is Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) Principal Investigator (FFP Award). He is also a funded investigator at SFI funded strategic research center on 'Sustainable IoT-'CONNECT". In 2015, Dr. Roy was awarded the Visiting Chair Professorship of Engineering (A. S. Paintal Chair) by INSA (Indian National Science Academy). The award was given to 3 outstanding foreign scientists. In 2013, Dr. Roy was invited for a sabbatical visit to the Electrical Engineering & Materials Science departments, Stanford University, USA. In 2009. Dr. Roy was honored by the President of the University for licensing a patented technology to INTEL. Some of his published works on integrated devices were featured widely in international media. Since receiving PhD, Dr. Roy's professional experiences include 28 years of academic and 3 years of industrial experiences; particularly he has served both academia & industry as Senior Principal Scientist and Head of group while leading large research groups. Dr. Roy’s present research interests include how engineered nanostructures could be employed for the benefits of the micro/nano-scale devices from More than Moore (MtM) to beyond Moore (BM) scenarios. Since joining Tyndall National Institute, Dr. Roy was able to bring substantial (>€12 Million) government and corporate competitive direct research grants. Dr. Roy has supervised ~50 researchers to date at various levels at Tyndall-UCC and beyond. Many of his PhD students and Postdoctoral researchers received different international & national awards and held/are currently holding faculty/scientist positions in academia (Univ of Limerick, Cambridge Univ, Tyndall Institute, Shenzhen Technological Univ, Manchester Univ, EPFL, IIT Delhi, IISER, IFW Dresden.) and senior R&D positions in multinational industries (Seagate, Dialog Semi, Amazon, ABB, Analog Devices, DP Energy, Maxim Integrated, Intel.). He has 3 granted global patents, published 8 book chapters, and ~220 research papers with citations & h-index of 43 to date. Details can be found at UCC / Tyndall Institute sites
