About Saikat B.

I am Saikat, a Civil/Structural Engineer with 5+ years of experience in Structural design consultancy for the Power and Steel Plants. Presently I am pursuing my doctoral research (Research area: Energy-Based design of Structures against dynamic loading) in the Department of Building, Civil and Environmental Engineering at Concordia University, Montreal, QC, Canada. Before joining Concordia, I have worked with Siemens Ltd. as a Senior Executive (2015 – 2017). In Siemens, I have served the Civil Engineering design team for the Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) project Olkiluoto 3, the largest NPP on earth. Before that I have earned my master’s degree (MS) from Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Chennai, India through research (Research area: Computational Engineering Seismology), where the first-ever source-medium-site integrated mechanistic numerical model of the Indo-Gangetic Plain (IGP) was developed. From 2009 to 2012 I have worked in M. N. Dastur & Co.(P) Ltd. as a Structural Design Engineer for some of the major Steel Plants of India and Libya. I have completed my bachelor’s degree from Jalpaiguri Govt. Engineering College, Jalpaiguri, India in 2009. Apart from the professional services, I have been a volunteer for cost-effective building practices while worked with the Forum of Engineers, Scientists and Technologists (FOSET) as the Convenor of the Shelter sub-committee. Presently I am serving the Civil Engineering Association of Concordia (CEAC) as the President. This year, after one year of the probationary period, the student organization is recognized by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) as their new student chapter at Canada.
