About Salim Darmadi

Dr. Salim Darmadi is a deputy director at the Indonesia Financial Services Authority (OJK). Prior to joining OJK, he served as a research staff member at the Indonesia Capital Market and Financial Institutions Supervisory Agency (Bapepam-LK), and as a lecturer at Indonesia's State Finance Polytechnic (PKN) STAN. Salim earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in corporate governance from the University of Technology Sydney, Australia; a Master of Commerce in applied finance from the University of Queensland, Australia; and a Bachelor of Accountancy from PKN STAN. At OJK, Salim’s previous roles spanned diverse and pivotal areas, including strategic policy development, macro-financial surveillance, financial system stability coordination, the Investor Relation Unit (IRU), and financial sector research. His notable assignments include the formulation of the Indonesia Financial Sector Masterplan, the drafting of OJK’s Financial Stability Review, and the co-founding and subsequent editing of OJK's flagship publication, the International Journal of Financial Systems (IJFS). Salim then embarked on a two-year secondment program, from August 2023 to August 2025, with the Financial System Stability Committee (KSSK) Secretariat, where he headed the Financial System Stability Assessment and Policy Division. After concluding the secondment, he transitioned back to OJK and currently leads the capital market macro-surveillance and data team. Salim's research interests are concentrated on the domains of corporate governance, corporate finance, corporate disclosure, and financial sector policy. His academic papers have been featured in various international journals, such as Asian Review of Accounting, Corporate Governance, and Managerial Finance, amassing over 2,200 citations. Salim has received numerous accolades, including the "Outstanding Paper Award" from the Emerald Literati Network and best paper awards at several international conferences. Additionally, he has been invited to become an ad hoc reviewer for international journals and to serve on the editorial boards of Indonesia's national journals in the fields of accounting and finance. Beyond his professional endeavor, Salim puts passion in creative writing. His debut book, a collection of reflective essays based on his time living in Brisbane, Australia, was published in 2016 by one of Indonesia's largest publishers.
