About Sally Dalton

I have a unique combination of knowledge, skills and experience that I can apply to multiple roles in the sport sector. Behaviour change and marketing: I have 10 years’ experience of behaviour change thinking and application from a career in commercial marketing at an international consumer goods company where I have managed multiple brands to hit consumer and commercial targets. Leadership and Strategic thinking: I have significant leadership and strategic planning experience from roles throughout my career, including my role as International Marketing Controller and my recent role at UK Sport as lead strategic communications planner. Designing and implementing interventions and innovations: I have successfully designed and rolled out participation programmes for England Hockey at both a national and local level. In my marketing career I have developed many product launches from research through to concept and product development through to commercialisation and marketing. Communications: I have significant comms experience from my marketing background, my role as campaign manager for the EFL partnership with mental health charity, Mind, and through my strategic communications lead role at UK Sport. Inclusion: I have a thorough understanding of the barriers to participation for women and girls from my work in insight at Women in Sport. Through my work in grassroots sport, I have implemented initiatives to level the playing field in hockey for children from state schools. Academia: I have a Master’s degree in Sport Policy, Business and Management where I focused on studying the drivers of increasing participation in sport. Passion and hands on experience for grassroots sport: my passion and skills for driving grassroots participation for all is clear from my work as a Board member and coach at a large community sport clubs where, for 10 years, I have led and motivated a group of over 80 volunteers to deliver fun and safe hockey to our community. I have focused on increasing participation, especially amongst children from state schools, and have doubled junior membership.
