I retired from London South Bank University (LSBU) in August 2013 where I was Professor of Education, Head of Educational Research and Director of the Centre for Cross Curricular Initiatives I have been awarded Emeritus status by the University.I have undertaken a range of high level management and leadership roles through my career. I have managed university education departments, research centres and a very large UK based UK Teacher Education ESD/GC Network with international links teesnet.ning.com) I have worked at a strategic policy level in all these roles. Throughout my career I have been committed to inclusive, democratic and accountable management practices involving flat structures and equal voices. Relationships have been at the heart of my management practices. I have been responsible for large budgets, external management committees and working with a range of external agencies – these include government agencies and quangos and a range of NGOs. I have worked extremely closely with a number of NGOs –e.g. Oxfam, WWF, CAMFED, SEEd. I have worked closely with Think- Global. I have managed large scale EU and UK research projects including budgets and people. I was Chair of Governors at a large primary school in London for 11 years. I am a trustee of SEEd an NGO committed to sustainable development education I have directed a large number of research projects at a national and international level. These include projects on race equality and cultural harmony, education for sustainable development and global citizenship, personal and social development of young people and student voice and school democracy. manages a large ) I have published extensively in these research areas.I am currently a member of the Independent Monitoring Board at Pentonville prison in North London. I am also working in a voluntary capacity with Southwark Day Centre for Asylum Seekers where I am undertaking qualitative research.
