About Sally Johnston

What started as interest and intent to help people as a counsellor, grew and transformed to a passion and commitment to help people help animals. With 7 years in the animal welfare industry, my values have become rooted in the fundamentals of caring: compassion, patience, and integrity. It is these values that drive my every day performance within my career, and motivate me to persevere even through the toughest of times. With years of leadership now under my belt, I am confident within my skillset, which includes conflict management and resolution, complex problem solving, and exceptional organization leading to positive outcomes with projects, tasks, responsibilities, etc. I am strive to continually expand my skillset, and welcome any new challenge, head on and with conviction.There is nothing I love more than working with incredible people; people I look up to and continue to learn from. I have had the privilege of working with some of the most intelligent, driven and influential people in my industry, and count myself lucky to have grown under their mentorship. It is through teamwork that anything gets done, and being part of a team is a privilege that I continue to value, and endeavour to never take for granted. Guided by the values and qualities cited above, I have seen great success in my career so far. Those accomplishments I am most proud of include expanding programs to better serve and protect vulnerable populations, including victims of domestic violence and senior citizens. I have helped teams work through conflict and attrition to become their most strong and successful. I have grown and retained Calgary’s foremost animal foster program, succeeding in engaging and placing an entire shelter’s worth of animals for a holiday season. Each of these successes have been a privilege to work on and through, and gave back to me as I gave to them. I look to the future with excitement and openness to the next challenges that will one day become accomplishments.
