About Sally Kirby

I am passionate about the environment and have over 25 years experience working in natural resource management, ecological consulting and education. I am also passionate about agriculture and striking a balance between production and conservation. I married a farmer and together we have raised our four children on a property near Molong in Central West NSW. I work part time in my professional career as an ecologist, and the rest of the time as a farmer, mother and wife. I have been working part time as an ecologist for Premise for the past 6 years. Premise is an environmental consultancy firm with an office in Orange NSW. As ecologists, we work on a great variety of projects from large infrastructure projects to small subdivisions, undertaking biodiversity assessments for both impact assessment and conservation outcomes. I am accredited in the Biodiversity Assessment Method and enjoy my work as I am always learning and interacting with intelligent and ambitious people. The best part about working for Premise is the people, and the mix of time in the office and the field. I am very proud of the work I have done as both a landholder and Landcare Support Officer over the last ten years. It is so important that farmers understand the vital role they play in managing the landscape, and are recognised for their efforts. It is not easy restoring a tired landscape. Fencing rivers and conservation areas is hard enough, but planting trees and shrubs, watering them, tending to them in droughts and floods.it is a labour of love. I am eternally grateful to my family and friends who have helped and supported me through the many projects we have done on our place. I am excited about regenerative agriculture, carbon farming, and natural capital accounting. Bring it on!
