About Sally Salomonsson

My work is motivated by a strong interest in how cognition, and the voluntary movement that connects volition with the external world, are shaped by nervous system functional networks and molecular biology in health and disease. Current research interests of mine include selective cell-type vulnerability and clinicopathological correlations in neurodegenerative disease, predictors of early neurodegenerative changes influencing e.g. synaptic regulation in health and disease, the role of TDP-43 in neurodegenerative diseases, metabolic/lipidomic influences on neurodegenerative disease, and the design and delivery of CRISPR gene therapy for monogenic causes of neurodegenerative disease. My current project involves designing and evaluating CRISPR editing strategies for therapeutic development in Alzheimer's disease, using mainly human iPSCs and iPSC-derived cortical neurons and astrocytes in vitro. I'm also involved in other projects on the pathomechanisms of Alzheimer's disease and ALS/FTD.
