Head of Consultancy at terptree advising and supporting companies/organisations with their deaf customer experience and deaf employee experience (DCX and DEX) Passionate about Inclusion and Equality Mum of 2 boys On a Unique journey with my youngest child whom was born with a Rare Chromosome Disorder I have been working in the British Deaf community since 2004. I started learning British Sign Language at the age of 17 years old in due to my interest in learning more about deaf culture and the language. I went on to further my learning at UCLAN in Preston for 3yrs studying Deaf Studies with Psychology, I then progressed to train to become a BSL/English Interpreter which I continued doing for 15 years. Experience in marketing, sales, administration and Interpreting/communication support for deaf led companies. I retired from practicing as a qualified Interpreter in 2020 due to my hearing loss and my hearing deteriorating to a level of not feeling competent to continue in this role, it was emotional to end my Interpreting journey but I am incredibly thankful for being fluent in BSL and for all the skills and experiences I have gained! Working in a variety of domains whilst Interpreting and working with OxFSN as a Family Support Worker has been valuable and I believe this has helped me to be assertive and gain what is needed for my disabled child to live the life he is entitled to. It is a privilege to be working for terptree as Head of Consultancy, working with the senior leadership team, managing staff and using my skills and expertise in my role to help change the world for deaf people by advising and supporting brands on their deaf customer and deaf employee experience.
