About Sam Brier
I have always loved traveling and learning, so after about 10 years teaching English in Asia, I decided to try to start a company that combined both of those passions. And thus was born AEA in 2005. As a youngster, I was fortunate to travel and study abroad extensively in Latin America and Europe, but I had wanted to visit Japan in particular since I was in elementary school. Fortunately, the JET Program gave me that opportunity. I highly, highly, highly recommend the JET Program! The following was my work path after graduating UT (Austin) in 1995: Osaka, Japan (1995-97, JET) Chongqing, China (1998-99, Sichuan International Studies University) Vientiane, US Embassy, International School, Lao-American College) Bangkok, Thailand (2001-2002, Chulalongkorn University) Melbourne, Australia (2002-2003) Fahilebo, East Timor (2002-2003) Cairo, Egypt, Israel & West Bank (2003-2004) Houston, Texas (2003-2009 University of Houston and Rice University, volunteer for AFS) Saigon, Vietnam (2006-2008 while starting AEA) Portland, Oregon (2009-present) Sam is a JET Program alumni; the author of 5 language books; worked for Airbnb as their first Portland Community Manager way back when; and lives in Portlandia, Oregon.
