Background
About Sam Burdyl
Sam Burdyl is a 2L at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School, a distinguished institution known for interdisciplinary engagement, collegiality, and innovation. She is expected to graduate May 2025 with a dual degree in Bioethics through the Perelman School of Medicine at Penn. Sam is involved in the Philadelphia community through the Toll Public Interest Center's Financial Literacy Project, where she builds on her previous experience in budget coaching and volunteer income tax assistance. In addition, Sam is part of Junior League, an organization dedicated to ending generational poverty. These passions, along with a desire to mentor, led Sam to serve as President for the First Generation Professionals organization at Penn Law. Sam further spends her time at Penn as an associate editor for the University of Pennsylvania Law Review Vol. 172, honing her editing and research skills. An active CPA, Sam is a rare future lawyer unafraid of math. Prior to law school, Sam worked in Mergers & Acquisitions tax, assisting private equity and large privately held and publicly traded companies on a variety of consulting, research and compliance matters relating to incorporations, acquisitions, IPO’s, cross-border strategies and bankruptcies. Her experience includes entity structuring, due diligence, business modeling, corporate insolvency, debt modification, Section 382 limitations, and transaction cost analyses. Outside of coursework, Sam is a dog mom and amateur stand-up comedian, winning First Runner Up in the 2019 Search for the South's Funniest Accountant (raising over $500k for children's financial literacy programs). She currently performs with the Penn Law Comedy & Improv Club in its annual showcase. Her previous education includes a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in Accountancy and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with undergraduate research in Industrial/Organizational. She received both degrees from Auburn University in May 2017.
