Background
About Sam Dawe
Sam is one of those rare people that can pretty much do it all. He shoots to an extremely high standard - both when following handheld actuality and when capturing cinematic drone shots. He is also a great editor. On the practical side, Sam is probably the hardest-working and most dedicated person I have ever worked with. In very challenging circumstances, he has the ability to focus and get the job done. He's also incredibly creative, easy to get along with and just a lovely human being. He would be a valuable person to have as part of any team. Hire him! You won’t regret it!"- Miles Blayden-Ryall, Emmy & BAFTA-nominated Producer/Director. I’m a BAFTA-nominated filmmaker and editor based in Bristol. Over the last 10 years, I’ve worked across a range of roles on natural history and factual entertainment programmes for companies like Netflix, National Geographic and the BBC. In this time, I’ve developed a wealth of experience in almost every production department. As well as edit-producing and editing, I’ve spent significant time in the field as an AP, director, cameraman and drone operator. On top of my factual work, I also write and direct narrative fiction films. My work has played at internationally recognised festivals, including the BAFTA and Oscar-qualifying London Film Festival, Aesthetica, Encounters, Palm Springs, Leeds and many more. Along the way, I’ve picked up several awards including a Méliès D’argent award from the International Festivals Federation. My short film, Hungry Joe, was nominated for a London Critics’ Circle Award and competed for the Méliès D’or at the 2021 Sitges Film Festival. It was also selected to screen on the prestigious Short of the Week platform, where it was called “one of the great modern British horror shorts.” Since then, it has gone on to receive over 2 million views on the horror channel Alter. My speculative scripts have earned me a semi-finalist spot on BBC Writer's Room and a finalist listing on the Shore Short Film Fund. I’m currently listed on Shore’s Director’s Roster and I’m a returning member of the BAFTA Connect. The feature version of Hungry Joe was selected for Early Development by the British Film Institute and I recently completed a BFI-funded short film called, Distressing Images - which is currently making its way across the festival circuit.
