About Sam Egan

I received a Master's degree in Cognitive Science and Data Science from the University of Carleton. I am a keen individual with a knack for utilizing data to in search of meaningful insights. My coursework provided me with a comprehensive understanding of research in both title fields, affording me to the opportunity to develop a versatile skill set that includes proficiency in utilizing R, Python, and Excel to drive data-driven solutions. At Carleton, I worked on a project that leveraged the power of machine learning to classify the risk of heart disease in the population. Within this data mining project, I gained valuable experience in utilizing and comparing various machine learning models such as random forest, and naive bayes, as well as sampling methods such as SMOTE oversampling. The project yielded an opportunity to use Machine Learning to provide novel insights into the study of heart disease and resulted in a first prize at Carleton's Data Day 9.0. With Pacific Blue Cross Solutions, I am part of the Business Intelligence team. I am working with state of the art business intelligence, machine learning, and forecasting methods in the pursuit of continuous learning and improvement to the data driven decision making ethos at the company.
