About Sam Langstein

Sam Langstein is the Director of the Helpline & Data Management at the National Alliance on Mental Illness in New York City, where he oversees a team of responders and manages their peer-led call line. In 2020, Sam graduated from the University of Michigan's Jewish Communal Leadership Program through the School of Social Work with a focus on management and mental health services. In graduate school, Sam served as a social work intern at Beit T'Shuvah and at Jewish Family Services of Metro Detroit where he completed a strategic community needs assessment of teen mental health needs and services across Metro Detroit. In 2015, Sam became a corps member of AVODAH: The Jewish Service Corps, and began working at Footsteps, an organization which supports and affirms those transitioning out of the ultra-Orthodox world. Sam spent three years there and held three different positions that ranged from direct counseling to data management to community engagement. Before that, Sam received his BA in psychology from CUNY Hunter College. Now, in addition to his work at the National Alliance on Mental Illness he often consults for a variety of social service organizations and mental health projects.
