About Sam Lavan
I am a recent college graduate with a BA in History and a Minor in French. I recently completed my undergraduate thesis on the history of the United States National School Lunch Program and the structural inequities of this federal program that exacerbated poverty in the Mississippi Delta through the end of the 1960s. Studying the history of federal food programs gave me an understanding of how federal welfare programs function and how inequities can be identified through studying their history. I am passionate about food equity and believe this work will become more critical than ever.
