About Sam Matthew

I am an attorney with experience as a tech startup general counsel and prior work in litigation and startup advisory. As General Counsel and Director of Public Policy for Remote Year, my work focused on navigating legal ambiguity and international compliance issues and liaising with foreign governments to address policy changes. My previous experience includes serving as Executive Director for a Chicago-based tech startup incubator and co-working space and time in both private practice and as a BigLaw Associate focused on commercial litigation. I earned my JD from Harvard Law, my BA in Speech Communications from University of Illinois, and I am barred in Illinois. On a personal note, I’ve worked remotely in 20+ countries over the past three years, I spent a year as a ski instructor in between undergrad and law school, when I left BigLaw I went to Peru and volunteered at an orphanage for five weeks, and a few years ago I played in the World Series of Poker Main Event (for two days, anyway).
