Having earned my spurs with British Airways, which those who worked there at the time call 'The Academy' I was approached to work for then BAA. I was the only operational stakeholder on the Pier 6 Project at Gatwick,(in the olden days BA was the only game in town!) and it was noted by the brilliant BAA Finance Director, Duncan Dalgleish, that 'we airport's don't really know what you airlines do exactly' so, I was offered the role of Senior Development Manager, to manage the delivery of large capital projects for Gatwick. I said it was the old days, but at that stage the airport used to send their capital plan to the CAA, and airlines would send a completely different one! So having had a poor 'Q4' review by the CAAI was approached by GAL, as their nominated ex-airline person to develop the Q5 capital programme for Gatwick, and then horror of all horrors, get the airline community to agree to it. So I did, and also project by project managed to get them to back a capital programme that increased from £450k to £1.2bn. I've loved every minute (well almost) but most of all the interplay between operations and commercial structures and of course working with my wonderful industry colleagues Delivered the 'Future Size and Shape' project programme for British Airways at Gatwick. Delivered British Airway's requirements of Pier 5 at Gatwick including the pricing structure for Common User Terminal Equipment (CUTE). Developed the Gatwick Airport Capital plan for Q5 Delivered Regulatory Compliance (through the Constructive Engagement framework) for Gatwick Airport, throughout Q5, including the Q5 Review. Developed Gatwick Airport's capital business cases for Q6
