About Sam Samdani

In my most recent role at McKinsey as a senior expert (aka "consultant's consultant" and "insight billionaire”), I aspired to inspire my McKinsey clients and colleagues to be not just hired hands but to aim higher. I helped clients identify and assess potential carveout or divestment candidates (by deploying a proprietary analytical tool dubbed Michelangelo for leveraging granular knowledge from detailed scans of the portfolios of the top 100+ chemical companies worldwide) to deliver multibillion-dollar impact across the chemical value chain. I also brought granular insights into the various segments of advanced materials and specialty chemicals markets, including active pharmaceutical ingredients, advanced ceramic/polymer/metal-matrix composite materials, antioxidants, biocides, biotech seeds, catalysts, cosmetic/personal care chemicals, electronic chemicals, food/feed additives/ingredients, lubricating oil additives, metalworking fluids, oilfield chemicals, plastics additives, specialty surfactants, water management chemicals, and water-soluble polymers. My passions include developing distinctive knowledge and tools, and helping clients reset their all-too-human intuitions about value curation opportunities by leveraging selected disruptive technologies spanning the worlds of bits and atoms, e.g, 3D printing, internet of things, nanostructured materials, next-gen genomics, and data-driven advanced analytics and machine learning. A full-time "decisioneer" and part-time lateral thinker and literal tinkerer with thinkertoys (i.e, powerful ideas worth playing with), I bring insights, capabilities and solutions from where the future has already happened, the implications of which are just not widely appreciated yet. So the hat I sported most proudly and often at McKinsey has "counterintuitive decisioneer & solutionista" written all over it. I also believe that good things happen when ideas that happen to be strangers to one another are allowed to date and mate under adult supervision! To this end, I enjoy cultivating a broad network of professional peers and industry contacts to independently (and confidentially) test out strategic ideas for McKinsey clients wrestling with their toughest decision-making challenges.
