About Sam Schoolar

I am passionate about brightening lives affected by cancer. Following my own diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukaemia,(AML) as a child, I have been involved in volunteering for children's cancer charities alongside various paid employments for most of my life. I have used this experience to found and become the CEO of Shine A Light Childhood Cancer Support. I am also involved in several other childhood cancer initiatives. In the eight years that Shine A Light has been founded, we have grown the charity year on year and continously provided support for local families affected by childhood cancer, despite the challenges brought by needing to move premises 5 times and those of Covid. We have a cancer support centre based in the centre of Rugby town, from where we run a shop and a community cafe, helping to raise another income stream for our charity. Our community cafe is now home of a local veterans group and three craft groups who meet on a weekly basis, as well as growing number of regular customers who enjoy the positive and welcoming vibe of our centre. We enjoy working with companies looking to fulfil their CSR through volunteering, fundraising and sponsorship opportunities, so please get in touch for a conversation if you would like to know more about the work we do to support our local community. We have a great team of local volunteers of all ages from 14 - 70+ years and we are looking for more.
