About Sam Simas

I am a writer, editor, and translator. My work has recently appeared, or is forthcoming, in Copper Nickel, Foglifter, Hunger Mountain, Puerto del Sol, Sycamore Review, and other literary magazines; my writing has been nominated for several awards and has won Copper Nickel’s Editor’s Prize for Prose, as well as first-place in CRAFT Literary’s First Chapters Contest. I am currently a PhD candidate in fiction at the University of Cincinnati and the fiction editor for the Ocean State Review. Prior to pursuing my PhD, I worked as the Head of Information Services at Providence Public Library and taught writing at Bryant University. I also served as a reviewer for the Journal of Creative Writing Studies and as a Library Advisory Board member for Rowman & Littlefield. I hold both an MLIS degree and an MA in English Literature from the University of Rhode Island. I received the Beatrice S. Demers Fellowship to study at L’Université de Rennes 2, in France, and I interned with Grub Street (Boston) and Barrow Street Press.
