About Sam Thorne

I live in West Sussex and have for 14 years now. Living down on the coast is what encouraged me to be in the marine industry. As a person I like to keep busy and have a very good work ethic which I have had from a very young age. I gained a lot of my skills from the RAF cadets, that I was in for 4 years where I got promoted to Corporal and achieved my Dukes of Edenborough bronze + silver. I have great time keeping and leadership skills. I also enjoy getting given responsibilities as I am determination to achieve well in the task. I am fully trained as a marine engineer, a welder and a fabricator and currently work as a marine engineer now in a small company in Chichester marina. I worked at Park Holidays UK Chichester for 3 years and then at Bunn Leisure in Selsey for a year as a Sales Executive, which I absolutely loved. Not knowing who was going to walk through the door, I have great communication skills which meant I was always greeting customers with a friendly welcome. I was recognised in Park Holidays for exceeding targets on sales for my first year at only 18 years old. From this I went onto my engineering career that I have thoroughly enjoyed and gained a great deal of detailed knowledge in the marine industry, however I always found myself trying to sell products to clients and have found the face to face contact and building a rapport is what I am good at. In my free time I like to spend time with my family and friends, go lake fishing on my days off where I can relax next to the lake and enjoy the peace and quiet. I also like going out on walks with my family walking the dogs along the beach. I am a good team player as I thrive in a team environment. I am easy going and understanding, however can adapt to what a situation needs. If required I have the leadership skills and the communication skills to take lead of a team. As a team member I always try and come up with new and improved ideas to help progress the company. I am eager to learn from constructive criticism and always open to new suggestions and ideas.
