About Sam Vandormael

For as long as I can remember, my goal was to go to the Olympic Games. Initially as an athlete through my own sailing career which took me around the world. Afterwards, I started coaching the youth national team in Belgium. I discovered that I had a skill in communicating & dealing with all different kinds of personalities. I followed coaching courses to further develop this psychological aspect & a basic course of business management. This all combined with a part time job as an administrative assistant (since 2016). After achieving multiple World titles and podium results at other major championships, in 2020, another role was added to the coaching I was doing up to that moment. I was put in charge of the Olympic Windsurfing Project (IQFoil), despite having 0 experience in that branch of the sport. In 2022 I joined a different project in Aruba. A country that hadn’t qualified itself for the Olympic Games in 30 years, let alone be competitive on the world stage. After an extensive analysis and long periods of intense training and competing we finished our 2024 season by becoming World Cup winners, winning a silver medal at the Pan-American Games and finishing 8th at the Olympic Games in Paris and achieving Aruba's first ever Olympic diploma in any sport. Now I'm ready for a new challenge. As of the 21st of April 2025 I will start a new journey as Customer Support Professional at Mediportal bv, a medical software company. Surrounded by a great team I hope to continue my growth!
