About Samantha Rush

I am a third-year PhD student in the Department of Marine Sciences at the University of Connecticut-Avery Point. Currently, my research centers on carbon cycling, with an emphasis on Arctic Ocean ice systems and the impacts of rapid climate change. With experience working on international and interdisciplinary projects, I bring a diverse skill set to both my research and outreach efforts. In addition to my academic work, I serve as the Newsletter Fellow for the Department of Marine Sciences, where I’m passionate about translating complex scientific topics into accessible, engaging content for broader audiences. I am driven to bridge the gap between science and society by focusing on science communication and science policy. Through my work, I intend to advance our understanding of environmental challenges as well as help shape policies that can address the pressing issues of climate change.
