About Samantha Singh

Art has always been a passion of mine, even when it wasn't clear to me at first. Growing up I found myself always drawing, taking photos, and finding ways to manipulate objects to beautify them. As I got older, I realized the role that art plays in my life as a way of expressing who I am, sometimes I find it easier to channel my emotions into art than it is to speak what's on my mind. During High School is when I truly found out how beautiful creating art can be. A couple of courses that I took were Media Arts and Yearbook, where I became familiar with Adobe Photoshop and iMovie. These courses have helped me develop both my creative and technical skills. Both courses have helped me understand the context and influences of Media Art - it allows us to create meaningful pieces that reflect personal and cultural identity, and community values while creating awareness for those values. There have been several opportunities where I took part in my High Schools annual art show, showcasing the work I had put together for the semester. During High School is where I began to learn the media applications such as Photoshop and iMovie. Where we learned to create and manipulate/edit images on Photoshop. One of the projects I worked on was a layered landscape, where we learned to add layers to a canvas, change the opacity of layers to create an image made out of several images taken at different angles. I also created hybrid works "hybridity" which is the process of mixing media and contemporary art. People assume that art is just another way of showcasing something by enhancing what is already there. But that’s not necessarily the goal of the artists, art is intended to create a connection with human emotions. Art is so powerful that just by creating lines, colours, motions, textures, sounds, shapes, and even size in a way that is pleasing to the eyes, and with imagination can cause this chain reaction to people’s emotions, connecting them to an image or an object.If you managed to make it all the way down here, I would like to thank you for taking the time to read a little about me and my background.
