About Samantha Walker

Over the past 20 years, I’ve worked at the intersection of trauma, mental health, addiction recovery, and community care, helping organizations expand what’s possible for people by building structures that lead to long-term stability. Currently, I serve as Director of Mental Health Services at The Lighthouse in Orillia, a multi-service nonprofit offering emergency shelter, supportive housing, stabilization programming, and food security services. In this role, I’m focused on integrating trauma-informed mental health supports into a housing-first environment, with an emphasis on collaboration, staff wellness, and client dignity. My work includes: Leading initiatives like Mental Health Awareness Month, de-escalation training, and housing stabilization protocols Coordinating cross-sector support with OPP, CMHA (Canadian Mental Health Association), RAAM (Rapid Access Addiction Medicine), and hospitals to reduce emergency department strain Reframing clinical tools like the Mental Status Exam to increase accessibility for frontline staff Providing clinical supervision, peer support, and regular debriefing for staff to foster organizational wellness Building internal systems that make Lighthouse “partner-ready,” creating space for seamless, strategic collaboration Developing accessible resource systems (in partnership with Lakehead University students) that reduce staff burnout while increasing participant independence My approach is straightforward: identify what’s missing, build the systems to fill it, and work with the right partners to make those systems last.
