About Sameera Kissoon
As a researcher at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), I apply my PhD in Environmental Engineering to address the challenges and opportunities of waste and climate change. I am part of the South African Research Chair in Waste and Climate Change, a prestigious initiative that aims to develop innovative solutions for waste management and greenhouse gas emission reduction. With over seven years of research experience, I have produced and published data and reports on waste to resources management, decarbonisation, and climate mitigation in the municipal solid waste sector. I have also lectured in integrated waste management systems and logistics, and presented my research findings at industry events and conferences. Additionally, I am the director of the South African Biogas Industry Association (SABIA), a non-profit organisation that promotes the development and deployment of biogas technologies in South Africa.
