About Sami Bibi

I am a Canadian national with a Master degree in Economics from the University of Laval in Quebec, Canada. From August 2006 to June 2010, I was a Deputy Leader at the Poverty and Economic Policy (PEP, international research network (based at University of Laval). From 2010 to 2017, I was a Senior Research Advisor at the Labour Program of the Government of Canada; from 2017 to 2021, I was Senior Research Analyst at the Employment and Social Development Canada; and since November 2021 I am a Unit-Head, Subject-Matter at the Centre of Labour Market Information, Statistics Canada. My fields of specializations are in the areas of labour economics, development economics and redistributive analysis, and applied microeconomics. I published in several refereed journals, including Social Choice and Welfare, Journal of Development Economics, International Tax and Public Finance, and Bulletin of Economic Research, on the topics of optimal taxation, transfers, subsidies, inequality and poverty analysis, labour market imbalances. I have also worked as an international consultant and a training officer with international organization such as the World Bank, the African Development Bank, UNICEF and the UNDP.
