About Sami Cooke

My life in the communications industry came easily as the ability to communicate confidently has always come naturally to me. Dreaming from a young age of becoming a presenter on a travel program such as Getaway, a reporter for the ABC, a freelance journalist covering important stories, or even owning my own PR firm, I live close by my life motto "You can never dream too big". As a musician, I always found both lines of work go hand-in-hand. Graduating from the University of Newcastle (2020) with a Bachelor of Communications, majoring in Public Relations and Journalism, I hold a vast range of aspirations in this field. My degree has taught me the basic frameworks to communication, and has given me opportunities to work alongside real-life clients and collaborate with experts in the field in both Australia and internationally. Being one for knowledge, I continue to learn about the communications industry through developing skills ranging from event management, radio news, print and digital journalism, design, marketing, photography, video editing and sound editing. By the time I graduated year 12, I had a 14-track album under my belt, a caravan with my name on it, along with a fully booked 10-month Australian tour. 110 shows later, I knew this was my calling, extending my reach to Canada and New Zealand in 2017 & 2018. 9 years on, I have continued performing each weekend. My music has always worked well with my other roles teaching me a valuable lesson; if you set your mind on something, you can achieve it. I’ve been branded with the badge of ‘hard worker’ by colleagues, friends and teachers over the years, within the communication and music industries. I have always found myself being one to jump at an opportunity, which I believe has taught me a lot. I am ambitious to continue growing, trying my hand at anything thrown my way; be it social media, marketing, sales, event management and planning, writing news articles, blog writing, interviews, music (pubs/clubs, weddings and events), and public relations.
