About Sami S.

Dr. Bassig currently serves as the Director of Education at San Pedro Playhouse and Classic Theatre. Previously, Dr. Bassig previously served as an Adjunct Music Professor at The University of the Incarnate Word. A celebrated performer in the San Antonio area, she has garnered recognition for her dynamic work in Musical Theatre and Opera, having performed at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall and 54 Below in New York City. Some of her standout credits include iconic productions such as “West Side Story,” “Into the Woods,” “Meet Me in St. Louis,” “Ragtime,” and “The Music Man.” Dr. Bassig honed her craft at Actor Therapy in New York, where she received training from acclaimed Broadway performers and casting directors, including Lindsay Mendez, Ryan Scott Oliver, Sierra Boggess, and Katie Rose Clarke. In addition to her performance career, Dr. Bassig is a dedicated voice teacher who specializes in training classically trained singers to belt healthily. Her commitment to arts education extends into the nonprofit sector, where she has served as the Outreach Director at Wonder Theater since 2022. In this role, she has transformed the outreach program, expanding it from two initiatives a year to twenty, while developing TEKS-based musical theater curricula for pre-K through 12th-grade programs. Furthermore, she founded the Wonder Theater Performance Troupe, an esteemed group of local actors in the San Antonio area, and established numerous partnerships with other nonprofits, school districts, and special programs. From 2020 to 2022, Dr. Bassig served as Treasurer for the Opera Guild of San Antonio, where she managed bookkeeping, accounting, and budgeting efforts. Dr. Bassig earned her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance, graduating Cum Laude, from The University of Texas at San Antonio. She went on to obtain both her Master of Music and Doctorate in Musical Arts in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy from The University of Texas at Austin.
