About Samson Grice

As a Data Engineer specialised in Machine Learning and AI, I possess experience in developing scalable and secure data systems within the wearable technology space. With a Master of Science in Applied Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence, I have a strong interest in solving intricate data problems, from developing high-volume ingestion and ETL pipelines to data cleaning and processing raw data into usable forms. In my current role, I am responsible for developing and sustaining core data infrastructure on AWS. I design scalable data models and analytics platforms, and build solid ETL pipelines with modern orchestration tools like Prefect. Perhaps the most critical function I perform is to empower our data team by organizing projects and encouraging adoption of best practices in Git, containerisation, and DevOps. I support our data scientists by utilising high-performance libraries like Polars / DuckDB to join, clean, and analyse big datasets. I am involved on the operations team of our data platform, deploying the team's applications and services onto our secure, private cloud infrastructure. I believe strongly in automation, building solid CI/CD pipelines to improve our development and deployment life cycle. As a strong believer in data privacy, I advocate for data minimization principles and anonymity. I am especially interested in the European cloud market and self-hosting opportunities as a measure to advance data sovereignty.
