About Samson Udho

Dr. Samson Udho, PhD is a distinguished Nurse-Midwife, academic, and research leader with nearly a decade of experience advancing teaching, research, and community health. He serves as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Midwifery at Lira University, where he is recognized for his scholarly productivity, postgraduate mentorship, leadership in curriculum development, and ability to secure competitive research funding. Dr. Udho holds a PhD in Nursing from the University of Cape Town, a Master’s in Midwifery and Women’s Health, and a Bachelor of Nursing Science from Makerere University. He has authored 30+ peer-reviewed publications in international journals and reviewed 50+ scientific manuscripts for high-impact outlets such as PLOS ONE, BMC Pregnancy and Childbirth, and Women’s Health. As Postgraduate Coordinator, he has supervised numerous theses to completion, championed faculty research activities, and driven innovations to strengthen academic rigor. His research leadership is evident in his success in securing and co-leading over USD 2 million in grants, including projects funded by the Center for International Reproductive Health Training (CIRHT) and IDRC’s CAFFP-PAC project, both of which focus on gender-transformative, adolescent-friendly, and rights-based reproductive health care. Beyond academia, Dr. Udho has served as Chair of Scientific and Pre-Conference Committees at national and international forums and as Patron of student associations advancing midwifery, patient-centered care, and innovation. His contributions earned him recognition among Uganda’s Top 500 Scientists (Alper-Doger Scientific Index, 2022). Dr. Udho’s research centers on strengthening maternal and newborn care, building multilevel interventions to prevent intimate partner violence, and expanding universal access to sexual and reproductive health services, including family planning and comprehensive abortion care—work grounded in the realities of sub-Saharan Africa. With proven expertise in research, teaching, academic leadership, and community engagement, Dr. Udho is a highly suitable partner for consultancy, collaborative research, and transformative health projects aimed at achieving equity and impact.
