About Samuel Afutor

As a passionate nature enthusiast, I envision a society where individuals can make informed decisions for ecological and socio-cultural benefits. Engaged in various nature conservation activities including faunal surveys, habitat restoration, and environmental education programs with organizations like Threatened Species Conservation Alliance, A Rocha Ghana, and the Forestry Commission of Ghana among others. My undergraduate studies in Natural Resources Management sparked my interest in the delicate balance between environmental resources and human needs. Pursuing an M.A. in Sustainability Studies at Trent University further refined my abilities to address complex environmental challenges. I embraced the concept of Two-eyed seeing, which was applied in understanding local resident’s attitude towards conservation in the Bia Conservation Area of Ghana. The graduate program delves into the sustainability of human societies and the natural environment through interdisciplinary education and research to enhance our understanding of environmental sustainability, economic prosperity, and social responsibility. With extensive experience in environmental research, soil and water sampling, data analysis, stakeholder engagement, and report and grant writing, I aim to apply these skills in environmental consultancy and mining settings in Canada and worldwide. Finding solace in outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, and fishing, indicate my adaptability to inclement weather. I was recently granted an opportunity to review a manuscript for the Journal of Human Dimensions of Wildlife.
