About Samuel Ames

I am an undergraduate student aspiring to achieve a career in international economics or politics, particularly in regards to the Middle East. I have training and experience in quantitative research in the fields of political science and economics, and was named a BYU Kennedy Center Research Fellow for a capstone research paper on the relationship between greenhouse gas emissions and democracy. I am an avid language learner: Having studied Arabic for three years and completed the associated BYU intensive language study abroad in Jordan, I have an advanced-level proficiency in Arabic and hope to develop similar skills in Persian.When I'm not studying or working, I love pushing myself physically and mentally. I grew up skiing in Little Cottonwood Canyon and remain an avid, passionate skier to this day. I thoroughly enjoy triathlons and intend on completing my first half-Ironman this spring, and due to my Finnish heritage I have made it a lifelong goal to keep up my Finnish language abilities despite not living in an environment where it is commonly spoken.I'm at my best when I'm setting and achieving challenging goals, and I look forward to harnessing that energy in the workforce.
