About Samuel Bermke

I am a Leadership Development Associate at State Farm in the P&C Actuarial and Underwriting Modeling Technology unit. In this unit, I serve as a Modeling & Technology Manager, leading a team of software and data engineers to develop a comprehensive ecosystem that will enhance State Farm's rating, modeling, and underwriting capabilities. I obtained my ACAS designation in February 2021, have passed Exams 7 and 8, and will be taking the last exam (9) in the Spring 2024. Additionally, I am a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries. Prior to my current position, I was an Actuarial Analyst in 2 areas. In the Technology unit, I combined my business knowledge and technical expertise to support the development of data and actuarial tools that support the rate revision, rate analysis, and indications processes. Prior to that, I was in the P&C Actuarial Personal Auto Pricing unit, where I performed key rate revisions, performed independent and ad-hoc analyses, and served as a primary point of contact for personal auto in several states. In 2019, I graduated from Drake University, graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelor's of Science in Business Administration. I majored in Data Analytics and Actuarial Science and earned minors in Computer Science and Mathematics. As a graduating senior, I earned the Outstanding Data Analytics Student Award, selected by the Faculty in College of Business and Public Administration. While at Drake, I was an intern at EMC Insurance Companies, spending one year in each of the Predictive Modeling and Actuarial Business Intelligence units. I also was in the Beta Phi chapter of the Alpha Kappa Psi professional fraternity, where I served roles as Secretary and Vice President of Administration. I also was a Resident Assistant for two years at Drake, serving one year in each of an upper-class and first-year experience residence hall.
