Background

About Samuel Cervantes

My personal mission is continuous holistic growth for the benefit of my family and community. My core values are sustainability, growth, and service. Sustainability: I don’t just mean this in the environmental sense. I think sustainability for organizations means a commitment to effectiveness and efficiency. I have a problem with waste, and energized with opportunities to minimize it. Growth: I believe in this so much, I believe in growing a growth mindset. While I have a problem with waste, I’m also a natural optimist and have deep patience for people and processes when we share an intention to grow/improve. Slow progress is still progress. Service: “Service to others is the rent we pay for our room here on earth.” - Mohammad Ali. I love this quote and take it seriously, not just in my work with my team, clients, and students, but in my marriage and relationship with my children. It infuses everything I do. It used to bother me slightly that my last name translates to servant but now I lean in to it. Among my many unearned privileges, I am particularly grateful to my parents for immigrating from the Philippines to the territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh and Səl̓ílwətaʔ First Nations.
