About Samuel Hakim

I am a dedicated teacher-scholar, with a primary goal of student growth and development as they reach the job market. I graduated from the The University of Alabama with a PhD in Communication and Information Sciences with a specialization in sport and a cognate in statistics. My training and research background is two-prong in both traditional communication studies and mass media in sport communication. I am currently in my fourth year as a lecturer of sport communication at Clemson University. In addition to teaching, I am a published researcher and continue to work on sport related projects. I am trained in both quantitative and qualitative methods of data collection and analysis. I am a dedicated educator, and pride myself on working with students to accomplish their goals. I also serve on numerous teaching committees at the departmental- and college-level. I have won multiple awards for my teaching and research, and maintain my respective philosophies of being present and collaboration. My dissertation research focused on how fans perceived interactions with athletes from multiple angles including emotional responses, media behaviors, and consumer behaviors. Furthermore, my research also captured the verbal and nonverbal behaviors that contributed to positive and negative athlete-fan interactions. My long-term goal is to further my research through educational courses and pre- and post-testing with professional athletes to improve upon the inherent importance of human interactions and further display the significance of athletes. Long-term, I would like to oversee larger projects that directly work with athletes and sports organizations in providing dedicated teaching and research into athlete presentation, identity, and public and media relations.
