About Samuel Hiard

Specializing in parralel systems and robotics at first, I turned to Artificial Intelligence during the rest of my formation. My expertise now also emcompasses networks and databases. I began my master with a lot of interests in logic-based AI and completed my master thesis with a thourough exploration of the "Rush Hour" board game to search the most difficult starting combination. I then moved to Machine Learning using statistics and was hired in the Systems and Modeling reseach unit at the University of Liege, which also had interests in bioinformatics. I discovered this new field for 3 years and produced the PreDetector software and the patrocles database before starting my PhD thesis in Ranking where I designed several algorithms aiming at reducing the complexity of the RPC algorithm while keeping an acceptable reliability rate. After my thesis, I was hired as an adjuncted lecturer for teaching missions at the Henallux grad school. This mission lasted 7 years during which I taught several courses, such as Distributed programming, Network security, and OS principles. I also gave an introductionary course to dababases at the university. In 2020, I got the opportunity to be hired as master assistant at the HEPL, mainly for database courses, and kept only a part-time job at the university until 2022 when HEPL became my only employer. In 2023, I became the coordinator of the computer science masters and obtained the CAPAES. Specialties: Programming (java, php, C, C++, SQL), Databases, Network socket programming and security, Machine Learning and Preference Learning, Bioinformatics.
