Background

About Samuel Kane

I was born and raised in South Florida, and attended Florida Gulf Coast University for my bachelors degree. I graduated with an Environmental Studied major and a minor in Biology. My most recent job was with the Florida Conservation Corps, on the Trail Restoration and Enhancement Corp (TREC) team. This was a traveling trail team during the 2020 year which gave me vast experience working on teams safely, while following all Florida Department of Environmental Protection guidelines and rules, due to the FLCC being a part of the Florida DEP. I gained vast experience on the TREC using a variety of tool and equipment from handsaw and machetes to pole saws and chainsaws. Along with experience operating vehicles such as atv’s, utv’s and trucks through muddy and challenging ecosystems. I have gained experience maintaining fire lines, removing hazard trees and creating new trails in various state park ecosystems. I have experience with prescribed burns and have my S130, S190 and L180 course certification that are certified by the NWCG. I also hold a Florida Boaters License and am well versed in operating and driving boats and working on the water. I have experience and passion for working with and performing research on various animals that we find here in Florida. I have helped with research efforts done at FGCU with helping to understand how the groundwater flowed on campus and how we affected it and helping with small mammal trapping, handling and sampling around the campus. I have internship experience helping with sea turtle monitoring programs in Lee county along stewardship experience with nest shorebirds in Lee county. Along with experiences having worked as a tour guide and steward at Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary and having been able to help with bird and butterfly surveys. I am extremely passionate about working in the the various ecosystems that Florida is made up of. I enjoy to work hard and have the stamina and experience to work in challenging ecosystems, while withstanding wildlife, biting bugs and rugged weather.
