About Samuel Mills

I am currently working as a System Engineer / Meteorologist in support of AWIPS (Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System) for the National Weather Service.I recently graduated with a B.S. in Atmospheric Science – Meteorology from North Carolina State University. At Early Alert I worked to improve upon the current state of weather-related hazards communication to corporate clients. Early Alert is a virtual office company. Our operations during COVID-19 have not been heavily impacted as we are diligent in working efficiently working from home. During my time at NC State, I acquired a vast skillset related to sciences and technology. I am proficient in analyzing maps (atmospheric and geo), atmospheric soundings, numerical weather prediction data, remote sensing data, and the fundamental dynamics, physics, and statistics used to create the relevant equations needed for the generation of the data. In addition to pure atmospheric science, I have other valuable skills. I am experienced writing logic-based computer code using MATLAB and Python platforms. I also have experience and special interest in GIS computing. I see the value behind the combination of advanced mapping programs and data in conjunction with atmospheric modeling. Geography and terrain are of great interest to me in addition to my passion for atmospheric science. My studies at NC State have led to becoming rather well-rounded in all Earth science and technology. Today, we can create prediction models and enhanced real-time monitoring devices for many processes on the Earth using modern scientific computing capabilities. My desire is to find or create a position where I can apply my expertise in sciences and technology to further advance progress in the field and discover new avenues in atmospheric and geosciences. I plan to return to school in pursuit of a M.S. in Atmospheric Science soon.I have a vast amount of work experience as I did not take the traditional path to obtaining my undergraduate degree immediately after high school. I have worked various long-term customer-service and labor oriented positions starting with throughout high school, post high school, throughout community college, and through my time at NC State University. This long timeline of work experience, especially when compared to many others just graduating from college, sets me apart with an obvious increased maturity level and an understanding of the type of experience that being in the workforce full-time brings.
