About Samuel Otter

My passion is building things, no matter if it is LEGO, software systems or teams. I've been building things as long as I can remember. As a child I started with LEGO and later with games like Simcity, which eventually led me to learn more about computers and to learn programming them. When the time came to pick a profressional path there were no hesitation, software engineering was, and still is, my passion. Developing complex software systems is a team effort and with time I've learned to appreciate not just the technical problem solving but also the soft challenges in getting a group of people to deliver great results together. Building teams and the organization required to deliver high quality software in demanding environments is just as, if not more, satisfying and challenging as the hard engineering problems.Currently at Peltarion I'm coordinating and helping all teams to build better software as the chief architect, while simultaneously managing a group of backend and machine learning engineers. While building the Peltarion AI Platform I've had the opportunity to learn and deepen my understanding of many aspects of modern AI and machine learning, all the way from low level frameworks such as tensorflow to the high level challenges data scientists and machine learning engineers are facing.My strengths includes being good at understanding the big picture while being able to move seamlessly from the high level to low level details. I am good at learning and quickly getting up to speed with new domains and technology. Through my career I have learned what it takes to deliver under pressure and the importance of keeping cool and focus on the critical things. I have experience in leading complex technical projects, managing teams, coaching engineers, hiring and other skills required to make a high performance software organization work. I have made sure to maintain relevant skills needed as an indiviudal contributor as I believe that as a leader and manager it is important to understand the tools and technologies being used from the bottom up.
