About Samuel Passell

From a whānau of carpenters, I spent many a school holiday working onsite with my father. As an adult my brother and I have been lucky enough to work together on some amazing projects throughout Aotearoa. Some of the standouts for me have been:• KAURI TIMBER COMPANY, seismic strengthening to a category 1 historic building and adjacent new build and integration. The building is rich in history about early milling practices and the logging boom of our indigenous timber species. The site was also home to a basement club in the late 90's where my friends and I spent most weekends, a real nostalgic project. • Projects of national significance like TE TOHU, home of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, He Whakaputanga and the Women’s Suffrage Petition, three documents that shaped our country & THE GREAT WAR EXHIBITION, which told many stories of hope, courage, loss and despair.• Others such as DAISY (Apartments by Ockham) and QUEEN MARGARET’s COLLEGE (New Boarding House), memorable more for the incredibly talented and hard-working people involved, and appreciation for the knowledge and skills they passed on to me. Construction is more than a job for me. My wife and partner of 20 years is a skilled Designer, Drafter and BCA, we regularly discuss construction systems, products, the NZ Building Act & Codes - how they are applied, compliance pathways, and how ambiguity enables both innovation and confusion.Currently I am working in the preconstruction space preparing budget estimates, tender submissions, pricing negotiated work, and studying towards a Bachelor of Construction [QS].
