The digital landscape has given the world unlimited opportunities, unfortunately in many ways the “personal touch” has been sacrificed to do so. It was an interesting experience to say the least when I left the fine-dining restaurant industry for the technology sector. The contrast is expressed well between Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse and Microsoft, where the Ruth’s Chris rule was “Never say No to a Guest” and we would fulfill the smallest, and sometimes ridiculous requests. On the other hand, with technology the rules & guidelines are much more defined and unwavering, after all a missing decimal could cost millions. My time at Microsoft gave me the opportunity to grow and learn invaluable practical skills, and it was there I received my favorite compliment of my life from my Manager. She told the team and I, “If I ever need something done without any doubts it will be completed, I give the task to Sam.” I always want to be known for being reliable, and that meaningful recognition only strengthened my resolve to do so. At the end of the day when a guest leaves your restaurant it is crucial that they feel the highest level of satisfaction possible, because their next meal could be only hours away. Technologies value comes over time, your satisfaction must build every day you use it for years. Luckily, I have found success in both industries, and that is what I bring to the table today. Satisfaction in my role immediately, as well as every day for years to come.
