About Samuel Scott

Sam Scott has been CEO and Executive Director of Bryn Mawr Film Institute, located in suburban Philadelphia, since being chosen to succeed the organization's founder in 2017. Prior to that, Sam chaired BMFI's Board of Directors for 7 years, with all of these years culminating in BMFI's current status as one of the most successful nonprofit suburban art houses in the country. Sam brings years of experience and creativity in both film exhibition as well as production and combines that experience with his disciplined business approach. During his tenure with the organization, BMFI has grown to over members, raised millions of dollars, built 2 new stadium theaters and fully renovated 2 others, while simultaneously building a multi-million dollar endowment, all notable accomplishments, amidst a film industry under constant change. His business background stems from a prior career as a private investor and as President & CEO of The Johnson-March Corporation, a diversified manufacturing and consumer products company. When the opportunity arose back in 2005 to join a newly-founded motion picture theater and film education center, Sam leaped at the opportunity. BMFI audiences know him quite well, as he often personally introduces BMFI screenings and takes on occasional speaking engagements in and around the community and, of course, he meets regularly with current and prospective funders. Sam's interest in motion pictures has been life-long. His formal activities in film exhibition began with his studies and work with the late James Card, founder and former curator of the world-renowned motion picture archive of the George Eastman House,(now The George Eastman Museum), Rochester, NY. Scott received his B.A. degree in Film Studies from the University of Rochester in 1972. He subsequently worked with the late Gene Roddenberry in film/television production at Warner Bros. Sam currently serves as Senior Trustee and Trustee, respectively, on the boards of The Baldwin School and Beth David Reform Congregation, having been President of both institutions.
