Sam Viggiano is an Associate Product Evaluation Research Manager on the Product and Health Experience division on the Solution and Insight Validation team at Highmark Health. He previously served as a Program Analyst and Data and Analytics Fellow at the US Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General in Washington, DC. As a Fellow, Sam was one of the first Americans to explore the relationship between CMS quality of care metrics and the recently publicly-available nursing home ownership data. His analysis and dashboard was adopted into an internal dashboard and discussed this work with various HHS OIG components. As an analyst, his work focused on fraud, waste, and abuse related to COVID-19. He contributed to 26 federal cases, maintained internal dashboards, and delivered over 70 request deliverables spanning 10 regions and 4 components. He regularly discussed this work across components and federal agencies. Other notable roles include Health Informatics research assistant at the University of Pittsburgh's School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences PittNAIL and Pitt HexAI labs, Financial Administrator to the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Pittsburgh's School of Medicine, Student Liaison to the Pennsylvania Health Information Management Association (PHIMA), founded and served as President (2021-22) and Business Manager and Treasurer (2020-21) to the Graduate Student Health Informatics Council, and was a Deloitte mentee in the first Deloitte-Pitt mentorship cohort. He earned a BA in Music and minor in Speech Pathology from the WVU School of Music and Honors College and a Post-Baccalaureate in Prespeech Pathology from Northwestern University. Sam is creative, empowering, servant leader interested shaping a stronger, more efficient US healthcare system. Sam is passionate about analyzing data and building analytic products that inform policy, process, performance while working with stakeholders to coordinate the analysis of regional, national, state, tribal, and territorial populations, and strategize better health solutions for all Americans.
