Background

About Samuele Meschini

I was born in Narni, in the “green heart” of Italy. From an early age I have been interested in mathematics and physics, participating at many scientific competitions and events during the high-school period. Along with my scientific interests, I have grown a passion for sports and trekking. I moved to Torino to attend the courses for the bachelor’s degree in Energy Engineering at Politecnico di Torino, building a strong background for the following Master of Science in Energy and Nuclear Engineering at PoliTo and Nuclear Engineering at PoliMi. The MS concluded with my master thesis on the topic "Preliminary reactor design for nuclear thermal propulsion", which conjugated my study path with my passion for space exploration. Got a PhD in energetics with a thesis on ARC-class tokamaks with a scolarship funded by Eni. During the doctorated I carried out analysis for DEMO fuel cycle safety and DTT radiological safety. Currently postdoc at MIT PSFC. My research activities focus on- Tritium transport in fusion components - Fusion fuel cycles - System-level modeling of fusion systems (thermal-hydraulics, tritium transport)- Neutronics simulations - Sqfety assessment, accidental scenarios modeling - Energetics analysis - Machine learning for safety applications
